What Is the Wheel of Life in Coaching

The Wheel of Life is a visual diagnostic tool that assesses the client's satisfaction level across the main areas of their life. It is represented as a circle divided into sectors, each representing a key area such as health, work, family, finances, or personal growth.

Origin and History

It was created by Paul J. Meyer, founder of the Success Motivation Institute, in the 1960s. Since then it has become one of the most widely used tools in life coaching, therapy, and personal development worldwide.

How It's Applied in Coaching

  1. Define the Areas: Choose 6 to 10 life areas relevant to your client (health, work, relationships, finances, leisure, growth, spirituality, etc.).
  2. Score Each Area: The client rates their current satisfaction level in each area from 1 to 10.
  3. Visualize the Result: Connect the points to form a shape. An irregular wheel reveals imbalances.
  4. Reflect: Use powerful questions to explore the lowest-scoring areas and define actions for improvement.
